چکیده

Even though Autocompletion is widely used in search interfaces with different variations, few guidelines exist on how to present autocompletion suggestions. In this paper, we describe two user studies that shows some types of organization strategies help users search faster and easier in a known-item search task. We studied the effect of grouping suggestions in an autocompletion interface to select terms taken from a thesaurus. In the first study, we explored ways of grouping term suggestions from two different thesauri (TGN and WordNet). The results of the first study suggested that the best organization strategies are different when using different thesaurus. Users found Group organization may be appropriate to organize location names from TGN, while Alphabetical works better for WordNet. We then carried out a follow-up study, where we compared three different organization strategies (Alphabetical, Group and Composite) for location name search tasks. The results of the second study indicate that in general, autocompletion interfaces help improve the quality of keyword. We also found that Group and Composite organization help users search faster, and users perceive the suggestion organization as easier to understand and use than the Alphabetical. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 1998 ACM Computing Classification System: H.1.2Human factors

The Design Space of a Configurable Autocompletion Component

Autocompletion is a commonly used interface feature in diverse applications. Semantic Web data has, on the one hand, the potential to provide new functionality by exploiting the semantics in the data used for generating autocompletion suggestions. Semantic Web applications, on the other hand, typically pose extra requirements on the semantic properties of the suggestions given. When the number ...

Advancing Search Query Autocompletion Services with More and Better Suggestions

Autocompletion services help users in formulating queries by exploiting past queries. In this paper we propose methods for improving such services; specifically methods for increasing the number and the quality of the suggested ”completions”. In particular, we propose a novel method for partitioning the internal data structure that keeps the suggestions, making autocompletion services more scal...

SimpleFlow: Enhancing Gestural Interaction with Gesture Prediction, Abbreviation and Autocompletion

Gestural interfaces are now a familiar mode of user interaction and gestural input is an important part of the way that users can interact with such interfaces. However, entering gestures accurately and efficiently can be challenging. In this paper we present two styles of visual gesture autocompletion for 2D predictive gesture entry. Both styles enable users to abbreviate gestures. We experime...

SPACE: SPARQL Index for Efficient Autocompletion

Querying Linked Data means to pose queries on various data sources without information about the data and the schema of the data. This demo shows SPACE, a tool to support autocompletion for SPARQL queries. It takes as input SPARQL query logs and builds an index structure for efficient and fast computation of query suggestions. To demonstrate SPACE, we use available query logs from the USEWOD Da...
